Ryan MacKinnon '18 Recruiting Profile

I am a Senior at Boston College High School, a Jesuit, all boys, college prep school in Boston.   My high school is both academically and athletically challenging. 

BC High is a very competitive Division 1 high school.   I played baseball all my life as a third baseman. When I didn't make my high school baseball team my Sophomore year, I was encouraged to try the javelin. That year my team won the Catholic Conference outdoor track season and league championship. I was the top performing Sophomore, competed in several varsity meets, and I won the Catholic Conference Freshman/Sophomore meet with a personal best throw of 132'1".

My Junior year, I helped my Varsity Javelin team to take 4th place in the MIAA Division 1 State Relays and we finished 4th overall in the state. I placed in the top 3 of each of our dual meets, winning two. I placed second in the Varsity Javelin at the Catholic Conference Championship meet with a personal best of 154' 9". I qualified for the Massachusetts Division 1 state meet. Our team won the Catholic Conference outdoor track season and league championship, again. This year my team ended our outdoor season 2nd in Division 1 and 3rd at Massachusetts All States.

This year, I competed in the Division 1 Javelin Relays and my team of three finished first.  After all divisions competed we finished first in the State. 

Besides the Javelin and school, I continue to play baseball, both AAU and Legion baseball in my hometown, Marshfield MA.  I play town recreational basketball and in the Kingston Sports Center High School basketball league.  I also volunteer at the Marshfield Community Christmas and the Marshfield Boys & Girls Club.

During the school year, I am extremely busy. I commute over an hour each way to school in Boston, to attend one of the best high schools in our state.  In the Fall, I play intramural football.  In the winter, I throw shotput and work out with the throws team.

I feel that I would make a good candidate for a collegiate track team because I am hard working, very competitive, attentive, and respectful of authority. My coach and trainers have described me as quiet, but mentally tough. I always strive to win. My goals for my remaining high school years include qualifiying for Massachusetts All States and hopefully New Englands and Nationals, someday.
