Personal Statement
From the initial moment that I stepped onto the track for my first day of practice, I have been in an absolute awe of the sport along with its demanding nature and hidden difficulties. Every time that I sprint, hurdle, or jump, my sole intention is to be the best athlete that I can be. Track has become one of the biggest aspects of my life, and it saddens me to think about what my life will be like once this rollercoaster ride concludes. As I look forward to my collegiate years, I am in search of a school that can provide me with the opportunities to be challenged on both the track and in the classroom. Academics are more important to me than my passion for hurdling; I believe that this is because I hold very high expectations for myself, and if I am not impressed with my academic progression, my progression in sports will not matter. I challenge myself in the classroom by enrolling in numerous honors and AP classes, while simultaneously challenging myself athletically by giving 110% during every workout.
One thing that has stayed constant throughout my life is my love of crafting, manipulating, and dismantling things with my hands in order to solve a problem. I don't know how much my parents appreciated me trying to take apart the appliances, with the intention of "making it better", but no matter the severity of my "creativity demolitions" they always voiced an unwavering support for all of my endeavors. I feel that the field of engineering will best fuel my desire to improve things, and the specialized field of biomedical engineering exploits both of my passions of developing and improving technologies, while also contributing to the improvement in lives of so many people.
My main goal is to attend a college that is able to supply me with the coaching staff and facilities that will allow me to compete at a competitive level that approaches my maximum potential. This college must also be competitive in the classroom, I do not want to just be able to "breeze" through the four years, I want to be challenged both on and off of the track.
