Although I have only been throwing discus since the 2021 spring track season, and shot put since July of 2021, I have truly fell in love with the sport. My PR in a discus meet is 138'8", but I have thrown 155' in practice. By the time I reach college, I would like to have broken the 170' mark in a meet. These goals may seem ambitious, but I am willing and excited to put in the work necessary to start hitting these marks. For shot put, my PR is 51'9.25" in a meet. In practice I have thrown 54'11". As a thrower and student, I am very resilient which is something that I feel separates me from many other athletes. In eighth grade, I started my XCTF career as a distance runner; however, after being diagnosed with patella tendinitis, my distance running career was coming to an end. My coach recommended that I try the javelin throw (at the time it was only turbo javelin), and I fell in love with it. As a freshman in high school, I began taking javelin seriously and training lots. However, earlier this year, after about two years of javelin throwing and weight training, my doctor told me that my UCL was torn and that I would not be able to throw javelin competitively anymore without surgery. The surgery was one that would take me out of throwing for around 6 months, and so I decided to switch my throwing focus instead. I took up and dialed in on discus and shot put, quickly becoming a dominant thrower at my school and in dual meets. Within about 3 months I could throw nearly 130' in discus, and my love for the sport has pushed those numbers even higher as I continue training and learning. As a collegiate athlete, I want to continue hitting new PRs and learning more about the sport, but also meet lots of people who share my passion for throwing. A dream of mine has always been to compete at the Olympics. At first I thought it could be in the mile run, and then I thought maybe javelin, but now I feel as though I found my path and it could be with the discus throw. Not only do my huge aspirations and strong adaptability make me a strong candidate for collegiate throwing, but I think that my love for the sport and enjoyment for training and learning is what will lead to success as I keep throwing.
