My love of running began when I was eight and ran my first 5K road race. Countless races later, including running the Falmouth road race when I was 12, I was eager to run competitively once I got to high school.
As a freshman, I made the varsity team and was named “Rookie of the Year” for the team. Fueled by my cross country season that year, I was committed to improving as a runner heading into the indoor track season. My hard work paid-off as I ran with the varsity team and was again, named “Rookie of the Year” for that season. I was hoping to go for the same in the outdoor season, but Covid had other plans.
During my sophomore year, I lettered once again in the cross country and track seasons. I also ended both the indoor and outdoor track seasons as the top distance runner for my team.
Eager to continue my development heading into my junior year, I was training hard in the summer until I broke a couple of bones in my foot. My doctor said it was likely I would miss the entire season. However, with my grit and determination, I was able to come back and help to lead my team to a 4-1 record, including finishing first and leading our team to victory over our crosstown rivals for the first time in over a decade. The win earned me a league Player of the Week nomination. I finished my junior season strong with a performance at the EastBay Northeast Regional meet. I was also named a league All-Star and selected to captain the cross country team my senior year.
