2021, my junior year, was the first year I ran high school track. I had ran track in middle school, but had quit to play baseball. Last year I decided I wanted to come back to track. But my return was postponed due to the pandemic. When track season came around again this year, I was excited to see what I could do. Since I did them in middle school I was drawn towards hurdles. I knew the basic technique and several basic drills, but had not had any real training. So I had to work off my raw talent.
The first meet of my high school career I did both hurdle events. I ran in the 17s for the 110 hurdles and around 44 seconds for the 300 hurdles. Throughout the season I worked to improve my technique and times. Going into regionals my times got down to around 16 for the 110 and 42 for the 300. I was able to run both my fastest times at regionals being 16.05 in the 110 and 41.79 in the 300. I was even able to qualify for states in the 300. Even though it was my first year I was able to accomplish so much. This gave me excitement for next year and also a love for the sport. I am very passionate and I am willing to work as hard as anyone.
