Section 5A 800MI have been in track since seventh grade and I joint cross country freshman year. I have gone to state in cross country and in track. At state track I ran in the 4x800 and the 800. Although my relay was in the first heat we still managed to finish 9th at state my split was a 1:59.19. I felt pretty good, but I wanted to be a little higher on the podium so I focused for my 800. I started in lane one and I talked with my coaches and decided the best was to get out in front after the first 100 until the cut line then lay back and keep pace with the rest of the competition. I followed the plan exactly, but by the 200 meter mark we had a very tight pack and I ended up getting tripped up. I got back up knowing I would have a lot of ground to make up. Pain rushed through my leg the first couple of steps and I just kept pushing through the pain. I finished the race with a 2:14 and a sprained ankle. This was definitely not what I was hoping for, but it has taught me that things don’t always go your way but get up and push through the pain and move on. That’s how I have looked at training and racing since.
