Ever since I was a young kid and even in elementary school, sports have been a huge part of my life. My parents are both educators and both of my parents coached so it feels like I grew up on a track or on a field or in a gym. I honestly cannot imagine a life where sports wouldn't be a part of it in some way or another. Being a coach's kid, especially an administrator's kid, has both pros and cons. The pros of course are the non stop access to gyms, tracks, and fields along with attending all events, and then having all of the other coaches know your name before you get into high school cuz they know your parents. The cons are everyone knows exactly who you are and you are expected to compete and compete well. Come to think of it, I don't really consider those a con but more of an expectation. While I know my parents, my community, and my coaches have very high expectations for me as both a competitor and as a person, I believe I have even higher expectations for myself. I believe that I have a very solid work ethic and my leadership style is to lead by example and use my voice when necessary. I have a burning desire to not only do my best but to inspire and motivate my teammates to do the same. When you are on a team, you are only as good as the person beside you and in order to improve, it is imperative that we all get better together. I take that same philosophy with both academics and athletics. If you are not working to get better, then you just gave an advantage to somebody, somewhere who is working to beat you.
