I started running my sophomore year of high school during the Covid-19 shutdown. I began to run on my own to stay active. It started as an activity to stay busy but soon turned into something I was very passionate about. My first season of cross country, only three meets, was in March of 2021. Immediately after that, I began my first track season in the middle of New Mexico’s summer heat. Despite the ridiculous temperatures and falling injured a couple times, I still loved running and competing against others. I fell in love with being able to improve my times and pushing myself in races and workouts. As a result, I learned to be more confident in myself and learned how to reach my goals even when in uncomfortable conditions. I’m so proud of how far I have come and my contributions to the teams. As I gain more experience, I can set new goals that I know I can reach. And put in the necessary work to fulfill those goals.
One of my goals is to run at the collegiate level. I want to be a part of a program that will push me to improve in my races and expand my knowledge in the classroom. I know I have the mentality and work ethic to run on a competitive team. Over my senior cross country and track season I will sharpen my skills to become the best runner I can be. One thing my marching band director always says is, “Every rep matters!” Meaning we have to put our best effort forward in everything we practice. I apply that phrase to my workouts and always focus on doing my best, no matter what the workout is.
