As I have progressed through my 4 years of high school, one specific activity has been present on a daily basis. Running, has been a huge part of my life and I would never have thought that it would be, since I came to Fordham Prep with the idea of playing ice hockey. When I missed the JV ice hockey tryouts my mother suggested that I should run cross country just to stay in shape. In middle school I ran but never took it seriously and never made it to the meets. Running has given me a new way to live my life, a healthy, disciplined, and happy lifestyle. I have improved upon and gotten rid of many bad habits such as the lack of exercise and bad eating habits, I truly see a difference when I look in the mirror and it gives me a feeling of accomplishment. Since freshman year I have shown natural talent in the sport, and as my coach suggested, I should stick with the sport. I continued to race and go to practice daily and slowly improved. However, due to many injuries, I have been setback from my full potential, but as a result I know I am capable of running much faster times simply because my personal record slowly increases by a few second on the two-and-a-half-mile race. As indoor season approaches my goal is always to decrease my mile run time, I still remember the feeling of happiness of breaking 5 minutes. As I crossed the finish line my body was in so much pain, but it was all worth it, all of the work I put in, I remember I started sobbing because this was my biggest goal in running before graduating; this was in junior year. As a result of all the time I have put into running it would be a shame to put it all to waste, so I plan on continuing my running in college whether it be as a club sport, casually, or competitively; which I would be interested in. It has made a major positive impact in my life, and I know it will lead my life in a better direction as long as I stayed committed.
