My name is Nathaniel David and I am a member of the varsity track team at Brooklyn Technical High School in New York City. I compete in the 55m and 300m dash indoors and the 100m and 200m outdoors. My interest in sprinting came from playing soccer, where I noticed that I was often one of the fastest players on the field. I joined the track team in 2019, but only ran indoors in 2019 and outdoors in 2021 due to COVID. During my Junior season I ran a 6.64 - 50M, a 10.97 - 100M and a 22.38 - 200M. I finished 2nd in the 55M at the PSAL Indoor Championship, 1st in the 100M and 3rd in the 200M at the PSAL Outdoor Championship, qualified for the NY State Championship and was a finalist at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in the Emerging Elite 100M. I just wrapped up my off-season strength and conditioning program by competing in my first powerlifting competition. I lifted a combined total 1140 lbs and qualified for the Junior Nationals. My sprinting goals for the 2022/2023 season are to run a 10.80 - 100M and a sub 22.00 - 200M.
Academically, I am looking forward to my Senior year. In Junior year I selected the Law and Society major, which means I take classes geared towards government and criminal proceedings as a Junior and Senior. This year I will be taking AP Macro Economics, AP Psychology and also AP Calculus AB. The Law and Society major and my participation in sports, have led me to explore pre-law, psychology and sports management as possible majors in college.
I would say that my experiences at sleepaway camp have shaped me as a person and as a teammate. I have been attending the same sleep away camp since I was nine, and have learned how to cooperate with others and to be more independent. I always looked up to and bonded with the counselors who treated campers like little brothers by showing them respect. Last summer, I transitioned from a camper to a Leader-in-Training. The Camp recognized my leadership skills by choosing me to Captain one of the two teams during Color War (camp's end of year tournament). This was a great learning experience and helped me become a more effective team member. This summer I was a counselor and also part of the team that helped run the sports programs my camp offered. I modeled my interactions with the younger campers on the examples set by my favorite counselors. My hope was to ensure my assigned campers had as much fun as I have.
