My name is Cristian Suazo and I am currently a junior at the Lindenhurst High School located on Long Island, New York. I hope that this statement doesn't take up too much time to read. I am a very hard-working athlete who absolutely loves to run. I began running during the spring season of 8th grade, however I got injured mid-season. As a result, I was out for the remainder of the season. I joined spring track the following year, during my freshman year, and had a wonderful season. Here, I truly learned what a team really is, and ever since this moment, I have cheered and supported many different athletes who have left over the years, as well as the people who have joined each year. I see my track and field team as my "second family", and I love each person on it as my brother. In that year, I discovered my potential at the 400 meter dash, while running with a teammate who is now attending college. I was able to run a 56 second 400 meter dash, which surprised many on my team, since they haven't had a runner like me in several years, especially since I was a freshman. The 400m has always been my favorite event, and after working very hard each and every day, I have earned respect from each of my teammates, as well as from both of my coaches. I was appointed as 1 of the 4 Captains this spring season (junior year), with the other 3 being seniors. I also have run Cross Country (1 season) and Winter Track (2 seasons), still surprising many. I have proved various times that I am a sprinter, as well as a long distance runner, while being able to do both in a decent manner. For Winter Track, I specialize in the 600 meter run, an event I enjoy running (for both the 600m and 400m, I am 2 seconds away from school record). I am a key player in my teams, having helped them won meets and trophies, such as Babylon Bowl, and helping others qualify for competitive meets by cheering them on, earning a few medals myself, as well as 2 varsity awards. This is all true, however, I understand that I am a "student-athlete". As a student, I am also very hardworking. I took 3 AP classes last year, and 4 this year. I have done well in these classes, as well as my honors classes, and basic classes. I rarely miss school and I even feel anxious when I do. I have always liked the idea of learning, which is why I would like to attend college, in order to continue my running career, as well as pursuing an academic career. I am someone who respects others, is honest, trustworthy, and dedicated to both academics, and track. It would be a great honor for me to attend a college that matches my interests, and accepts me for the student, and athlete, that I am.
