Winning 3rd place in the 4x800m relay at the North Carolina State meet was the best moment of my high school career yet, and really went to show how far I had come as a runner, and how much farther I can go. Though, in my opinion, I improved the most as a student-athlete when I inadvertently disqualified my relay team at the conference meet 2 weeks before. Our team would have won 3rd place and earned the All-Conference trophy, but it was revoked because I stepped outside my zone as I was getting ready to take the baton. This experience motivated me to take the initiative and work on hand-offs with my relay members until they were perfect for the regional and state meets.
I initially joined indoor Track & Field in my freshman year to obtain a healthy physique, and while I kept working to drop my time, I never even thought about making conference let alone the state meet. It wasn't until I ran the 4x800 at the conference and regional meets in my sophomore year that I realized I could display my ability at a state level. I continued to improve my 800 time throughout my junior year while also better understanding the values of commitment and teamwork. I seek a program that's compatible with me both athletically and academically. I not only possess the physical ability to compete on a college level, but the character, temperament, and dedication to make a positive impact on your team.
