Personal Statement
It was not until 7th grade that running had even crossed my mind. My gym teacher told me I should join the track team, and I've been running ever since. Running has served as a tool to manage my anxiety and has pushed me to exceed my expectations. As well as managing my anxiety, the 50% of running that is mental, has forced me to become mentally stronger. This helps with most activities I do, including activities outside of running.
My freshman year in high school opened my eyes to the goals I want to meet before I graduate. I trained all summer and was ready to run my sophomore year. Starting out, I was on track for a very promising cross country season, as I had already run the fastest school time since 1999. Unfortunately, I contracted mono and strep, and my season was over. Looking forward to spring, I was able to drop my times significantly, and could not wait to show my ability on the track. Just a week into practice and COVID19 shut down the season. Now all I can do is continue to train and prepare for the upcoming seasons, as I hope to attract attention this fall.
