Personal Statement

My name is David DelBonis Jr and I am currently a student at Cranston High School West in Cranston Rhode Island. I have been running track since I was in the fourth grade and I immediately fell in love with the sport. I started off as a sprinter, but over the years my coaches helped me develop into a great hurdler. They showed me how great the event is and it is now my favorite event. I have trained with hurdles since a very young age. My coaches made me into the great athlete I am today by helping me train hard for the hurdles. I believe if you have the right mind set and work hard you can achieve greatness.

I run all year long for high school. I run indoor track, outdoor track, and cross country. I also played football for the school, as well as baseball, and taekwondo since I was 4. I also train in the gym several days a week and workout on my own time 6 days a week. My main events are 110mHH, 400mHH, and 300mHH. I also enjoy the 400m and 4x400m relay as well. All the training I have been doing my whole life gives me some competitive edge I believe. Since I have been running I have been improving every year due to the hard work I devote to the sport. My times for all my races have been cutting down to faster times every year. I came in 6th place in the state for 55mHH freshman year and third in the division for the 4x400m relay in the 2017 season. I also compete in the USATF meets which I have placed 14th in Region 1 for the 110mHH and 11th in the region for the 400mHH in the 17-18 boys group.

What makes me different from all the other recruits is that I believe I am a well-rounded person. I do many sports for the school and also run for the CLCF track club, go to the gym, and workout on my own. I take my academics very seriously, and I have a 3.95 GPA. I also am interested in Pharmacy for my job and I am looking for a college that provides both medical school and a great track program. I also volunteer in my free time at the RISPCA animal shelter and help in middle school track meets. I feel like my well-rounded background can help me be very successful in finding the perfect school for me.
