James Masterson '24 Recruiting Profile

My name is James (JJ) Masterson, and I am currently a  junior at North Kingstown High School.   I began running in Middle School after being cut from the soccer team as a 6th grader.  My coach called me "Forest Gump" because once I started running, I never stopped.  I have developed my running and truly enjoy the Cross Country experience from running long distance at different courses each race and the team dynamics.  I thrive on racing the clock and the runner in front of me and constantly try to beat my time.   I also believe that weight lifting is also an important part of my training regiment and it helps with achieving my goals while increasing my stamina and endurance.   I am a fierce competitor and run my heart out at every race and practice.    I work well with my coaches to do what is best for the team, as well as for my own personal growth.   I am a team player  and motivator for my fellow teammates role modeling support and encouragement.    I also play high school/AAU Basketball during the winter season which provides me with an opportunity to develop my muscles with a vertical jump, sprints and defensive stances.  My involvement with athletics has helped to develop me into the person I am today and I would like that experience to continue.  I believe that running at a collegiate level will make me a more focused and self-confident student-athlete and support my life goals for the future.
