In addition to running track and cross country, I am also a classically trained musician. I have played the cello for 6 years, and while running and playing cello are very different, the discipline needed to train at the highest level for each are very similar. For both, I always keep the end goal in mind: a polished performance. Practice looks similar for each: breaking down the music or the run into manageable sections. For music, it’s finding and practicing the difficult technique, and for running, it‘s practicling timing and pacing. Both require repetition, discipline, endurance and persistence to identify and correct mistakes in technique until the goal is met. But the best thing about performing music and racing is that there is always the opportunity to grow and reach new goals. I hope to also incorporate this in all aspects of my life.
