Hi, my name is Ethan Strand. When I was younger and played soccer, I noticed that I could play longer than most, and I ran casually after school. This is what led me to run cross-country. My discipline was developed by my time in scouting, where I recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. My first cross-country run was in 7th grade, and it woke me to the difficulty and satisfaction of competitive running. In 9th grade, I decided to join my school's cross-country team, and have been steadily improving. At the beginning of freshman year, I ran the 5K in 22:30 and improved to 20:30 by the end of the year. My goal is to run a 19:00 5K and a 5:00 mile by the end of my Sophomore year.
I know that consistency in pushing my limits in athletics will build over time. I take the same approach in academics. My weighted GPA is about 4.4, and my PSAT of 1400/1440 is ranked in the top 99.9%. I tested out of 7th-grade math and took high school geometry as an 8th-grader. This year I tested out of pre-calculus and am now 2 years ahead in math. As a sophomore, I am taking 2 AP courses and am an NHS member. I also have a passion for music and play violin in my chamber orchestra.
I'm looking for a school that is competitive in cross country and academics where I plan to focus on aerospace engineering.
