As of early 2019, I have made the decision to not pursue a college career in Athletics. Having been awarded the national Army ROTC scholarship, I will be attending Sam Houston State University, participating as a cadet in the ROTC program. Running will still be a major part of my weekly activity, along with other physical requirements as I train towards becoming an army officer in a few years.
For as long as I can remember, running has been one of my favorite activities, whether going for a light jog or training for an upcoming track season; it's natural. I've found that it's the people in my life that have had and continue to have the biggest impact on me. This is why no matter the sport, event or activity, I always enjoy being on a team or in a group. Even though Track and Field is viewed by many as a sport for individual events, being part of the team is one of its best aspects. It also makes team events, such as relays, that much more enjoyable to me. I have trained with some great coaches who have pushed me beyond my perceived limits. I've also trained for over 3 years in Kung Fu learning to balance myself as an athlete, and striving to overcome those mental limits we all tend to place on ourselves.
Throughout middle school and high school I have been involved with Advanced Placement courses, National Honor Society, and other community volunteer work. I hope to continue this when I finish high school and attend college in the years ahead. After high school going through college I hope to earn a degree in the field of criminology/law enforcement while serving in the military reserves. My career goal following college to serve in federal law enforcement.
As an Eagle Scout, I learned the value of helping others, integrity, and persevering through the coldest, hottest, or hardest of conditions. During the 5 plus years I invested in Boy Scouts of America, I logged many volunteer hours, and met and helped so many different people. I'm honest, reliable, and trustworthy, and will rise to meet whatever challenge is put before me. I aspire to be the best that I can be, on or off the track, in or out of the classroom.
