My mom signed me up for summer track when I was 6 years old. She said it was because I ran around the house all the time. I guess she got tired of it. I’ve been running ever since. I was inspired by LaShawn Merritt. He has the same last name as my mom so I like to think we are distant cousins. Through running, I have learned to overcome what my mom called psychological warfare. What that means is, I have mentally lost in a race before I ran and it transferred into my events. I realize now, it’s not about my opponent or competition, but me and my best effort. I plan to finish high school at the top of my class so I can pursue my dream to be a veterinarian.
Overall, my passion for running is undeniable. I’m good but know under the right direction I can achieve and reach heights a person may only dream of. I’ve been told I have the makings of being a well-known athlete. As long as I maintain the right attitude, humble confidence and become a teammate with my coach -- I foresee myself being the greatest I can be!
