Joshua Junek '27 Recruiting Profile

I’m a high jumper in the Class of 2027 at WLHS, currently holding the freshman school record of 6'1" and the WISTCA Freshman State Meet record with the same height. I started my freshman season at a JV indoor meet with a 5'10" PR, quickly moved to Varsity by my second meet, and remained there. I earned multiple first-place finishes and led the team in event points. My next goal: breaking the all-time school record. I’ve always been competitive, climbing, jumping, and challenging myself since I could walk. I got into high jump in 6th grade, trying to out-jump my brother’s friend, and haven’t looked back. I’ve played soccer, baseball, and basketball on competitive youth teams. Off the track, I’m part of the Rock Climbing Club and Wisco Witnesses in the World (WWW), where I volunteer at school and church events. I may not know exactly what my future holds, but I know it will involve track and making a difference.

During the off-season, I joined the Milwaukee Speed Academy AAU track and field club, where I pushed myself by running some sprints and working on the long jump. I earned a new PR of 6’4” at the Rockford Fire Invite in Illinois. The sophomore track season kicked off the indoor season with another 6’4” jump at the Performance Running Outfitters Invitational at UW Parkside. I made major strides toward my goal from Freshman year and am 2nd in the all-time school record with a jump of 6’6” at the Woodland West Indoor Championship meet in New Berlin, WI. My teammates and I took first place in the high jump relays at the conference, regional, and sectional levels. I ended the high school season in 8th place at the WIAA Track Championship in La Crosse, WI. At the close of the season, I earned 1st Team All-Conference. 

Club season with Milwaukee Speed Academy has taken me to Nike Outdoor Nationals, which was a learning experience, first place in the AAU Region 14 Jr Olympics qualifier, allowing me to participate in the AAU Jr Olympics in Houston, TX this summer.
