My name is Edis Mesic and I am from the Bay Area in California. I started playing club volleyball at the age of 12, at Bay to Bay Volleyball Club, and am currently on the 17-1s team. As one of the top blockers and hitters for my teams, in past seasons I have been playing primarily as a middle blocker, while also practicing and playing as an opposite.
I fell in love with the game in 6th grade at a Bay to Bay Volleyball camp. Until then, I played only basketball, which I also enjoy and love, but after my first few interactions with volleyball, I immediately knew that this will be my main sport.
After playing volleyball for a few years, I aspire to play college volleyball and continue to pursue my passion for this wonderful sport while also pursuing my academic dreams.
In my freshman year (2020/2021) at Harker HS, I was starting Middle Blocker on the Varsity Volleyball team. I was lucky to be part of a great team that took home the D3 CCS title that year. In the 2020/2021 season, my club team (Bay to Bay 15-1) made it to the finals of the USAV Boys Junior National Championship in Kansas City, MO where we lost in two very tight sets against Balboa Bay 15 Blue. In 2021/2022 season we had our major success, by winning AAU Boys Junior National Volleyball Championships in Orlando, FL, beating Balboa Bay 16 Blue in the finals. We went 12-0 in that tournament. In the 2021/2022 season, I played on both the Harker Varsity Volleyball team and the Harker Varsity Basketball team, improving my athletic skills through both pursuits. In 2022/2023 season as a part of the Harker HS Varsity team, we repeated the success from 2020/2021 season, winning the CCS title again and qualifying for NorCal State Championship.
In addition to regular practices, I have been continuously working on positional and skill training through Bay to Bay small training groups, positional practices, the Bay to Bay beach volleyball program, and Bay to Bay Grass Volleyball. I was also lucky to be invited to six NTDP sessions, which gave me a chance to train with the best players in the country under the supervision of some of the best volleyball coaches.
When it comes to academics, I have a strong passion for mathematics and the sciences, and I am taking all NCAA D1 prerequisite courses (I am currently in all AP and honors classes). My goal is to attend a school with strong academics and a top-tier volleyball program as I place great value in a balance of both a rigorous athletic and academic life. As of right now, my desired major is pre-med/science. I also have been actively involved in extracurricular activities such as school orchestra (playing clarinet), Spanish Honor Society, medical club, and volunteering at my current and previous schools.
