Felix Chavez '25 Recruiting Profile

I plan to attend a university to earn my masters degree and/or PhD in psychology while maintaining a high GPA, and become a psychotherapist so that I can help others better their mental health and help them improve their daily life. At the university I attend, I would love to fulfill my dream of playing volleyball in college and then going pro, join academic and extracurricular clubs that will benefit me and the community, and join their choir. What makes me a good candidate for any team is my ability to work well with a team, maintain good relationships with my teammates and coach, my flexibility if any kind of changes are made that are either drastic or slight, and my ability to listen, learn, and take advice from others. What makes me different from other recruits is that I am humble, considerate, and respectful. I always maintain the rule, "student comes before athlete," and so I focus on academics and maintain a high GPA while taking honors classes to challenge myself. I know that a significant factor for volleyball players is height and while I am 5'7", my speed and jump make up for my height. I have only played on a volleyball team for one year because the 2023-2024 school year was the first year that my school had a boy's volleyball team, but I do my best to practice to make up for the years I could have been playing, by going to public volleyball courts at least twice a week for 3-4 hours and play with people of all ages. I have a passion for volleyball and so I created a petition to start the team in 2023, in which many students and teachers signed, so that I could convince my principal and athletic director that there are people who want a boy's volleyball team. It was only after the petition, and many discussions and debates with my principal and athletic director, that I could convince them. I do not give up on what I want, I chase my dreams and achieve my goals, and that is something I will continue to do.
