Personal Statement
As a competitive player, I chose to start playing volleyball with a very competitive club back in Jr. High. I tried out for Ultimate Volleyball Club and instantly loved being apart of the Ultimate family. I chose to stick with them and their amazing coaches and, since then, my volleyball skills have really changed drastically. Starting out in different hitting positions, I eventually switched to libero by the beginning of high school.
I think what makes me stand-out from other volleyball players is the passion and commitment I have for the sport. Volleyball is something I care very deeply about. I bleed and bruise for the sport. I've played 6 other sports, but none of them really worked for me. I have loved volleyball for as long as I can remember, but being so far south from all the schools that offered it, I didn't think it was a possibility for me. It wasn't until I found UVC (Ultimate Volleyball Club) in Jr. High that I was actually able to start on my future in volleyball. While it was a 3 hour drive altogether there and back, I was dead set on playing.
I soon became completely obsessed with the sport, joining the summer teams the club offered as well as the full year teams. I became the team manager for the girls volleyball team at my high school and helped coaching the JV, which involved me going to every one of their practices and games. I took private lessons at my club, I talked with many of the coaches at UVC for help, I joined camps at colleges and other schools, and I basically did everything I could to become a better player.
I decided that volleyball is something I want to be involved with for the rest of my life. First by finding a college to play with, and then by seeking to major in education and becoming a volleyball coach. Wanting to actually do something with myself and push harder towards my goals in volleyball has helped my want to also grow academically. I have been an honor student since the beginning of my freshman year and a member of the National Honor Society since my sophomore year of high school.
I'm determined to make myself a better player. If I make mistakes I get down on myself to do better, I don't laugh it off. I'm determined and focused. I earn my play time. I try to get the team's spirit up and keep them going strong. I'm just plain serious about the sport, and I want to make whatever team I'm on proud.
