Hello! I'm Zach White, Class of 2024 middle hitter/right side from MOD volleyball club and Glenbrook South High School. My goal, after high school, is to play volleyball at the highest possible collegiate level. I believe that I would be a great asset for your college program and these are the reasons why. I strive to be a leader on the volleyball court. I'm a strong communicator and believer in team bonding. Whether I'm in the game or on the bench, I am constantly vocal and focused. I watch what the opponent is doing and communicate patterns and tendencies I notice to my teammates. Whenever someone makes a mistake in the game, I encourage them to not give up and let them know I have faith in them.
Another thing that is important to me is having a strong relationship with coaches. To me that means that I take their suggestions and advice to heart and try to incorporate them into my game. For example, one of my club coaches suggested that I toss earlier & higher when I'm serving. I tried this technique in practices, at home against my garage, and in games. As a result I've become a more consistently strong server. Having a strong relationship with my coach also means that I show them in practice why they can trust me in a game situation to make good decisions.
The most important thing that I focus on is having a strong growth mindset. Everyone experiences failure on the court at some point. I separate myself from the others by learning from the failure and incorporating those lessons into my game. As I get older, I'm discovering that a crucial part of my growth mindset needs to be giving my full effort in everything I do. My goal for senior year is to as driven in school as I am on the court. I'm excited for challenge that college will present and I look forward to facing it head on.
