In my opinion, one of the most important character traits of an athlete is to be able to discriminate between school, friends, volleyball, and other personal pursuits. Having that skill allows me to perform at 100 percent both on and off the volleyball court.
Every time I am on the court, I stay focused for 2 hours, working on my weaknesses and improving my strengths. With love for the game also comes great responsibility. Volleyball is a team sport. I can’t let my teammates down, so I never allow my personal problems to affect my performance. I am also highly motivated to bring up the most while on the court. Being a good libero is solely based on having motivation and determination to keep the ball from touching the floor. When I am locked in, I can fully concentrate on the ball’s movement and thus play at my best. At school, I perform my academic duties as a class representative and as a president of a nonprofit organization and a philosophy club. Being in a leadership position at school has taught me to account for my classmates’ opinions while also maintaining control. When I am out with friends, I take a break and enjoy my time with the people closest to me.
Ultimately, my excellent academic performance, loyalty to my loved ones, and love for the game of volleyball shape my diverse personality. The abilities I obtain from my daily life help me perform better on the court. The goal I have set for myself for 2023 is to refine my psychological traits, including the ability to be in full control of my emotions and to stay motivated regardless of the hardships I am going through. This is the reason why I began studying the philosophy of Stoicism - to help me improve my volleyball performance. My long-term goal is to play volleyball professionally at a more competitive level. Regarding that, I strongly believe that I am capable of coping with the life of a volleyball player in the United States. I want to, and will, benefit both my new college community and volleyball team.
