My name is Blake Hosic and I am a 17-year-old junior. I am 6' 2" and right-handed. Living in the state of Nebraska where boys volleyball is pretty much non-existent I have had to work much harder to be able to play the sport I love than those in states where the sport is more prevalent on the men's side. I started playing on an 18's team at the age of 13 because that was the only team of any age in the state and I have continued play at the 18's level ever since. I played libero full time my first two seasons which built me a solid passing foundation and for the last two seasons, I have been a full time outside hitter. I have watched and played volleyball since I can remember and have a high volleyball IQ. If there is ever a chance to get on the court I take full advantage. I also play a lot of sand volleyball during the warm months. I am out serving and self tossing on my home court almost every day of the summer. Nebraska does not offer high school volleyball for boys, so I have managed our girl's team since freshman year to get as many touches as possible. During the summer of 2018, I played for Iowa High Performance and we attended the High Performance Championships. I played primarily libero swinging a few games as an outside. We ended the tournament undefeated and won the gold medal. This experience helped me build leadership and taught me how to trust teammates and myself on the court. It also taught me that hard work and dedication is the only way to get to your end goal. On the court, I always give my all and if there is a ball that is missed I am the first one to chase it down and hit the floor to try and save the play. The court, however, isn't the only area where I give my all. My academics are extremely important; I currently have a 3.9 GPA and have been on the advanced track in both English and math, the only two subjects my school offers advanced paths in. I feel going forward, I will have the qualities and skill set to help any team I am fortunate enough to end up playing for by bringing a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a never-ending passion for the sport of volleyball.
