Personal Statement
I have been playing volleyball since I tried out for a coed middle school team in 5th grade. Since then, I’ve grown to love the sport, and have taken every opportunity available to play volleyball. Because the opportunities for boys volleyball in Utah are very limited compared to other areas of the country, I feel that I have a lot of room for growth and improvement even though I've been playing for so long.
I would love to play volleyball for a college that allows me to make a meaningful contribution to the team, and will afford me the education and experiences I need to prepare for the future. Although I would love to play for a team that’s a perennial national contender, I’d be just as happy if I was able to join a team outside the national spotlight where I can work with teammates to win a conference championship, earn a berth to the championship tournament, or even win a national title. I am committed to improving my teams by being a good teammate and leader.
I work hard in the classroom, on the court, and in day-to-day life so that I can reach my personal goals for the next 5 years:
* Graduate high school with a 4.0 GPA (unweighted) and qualify for academic scholarships that will make my college education more affordable.
* Begin my college education at a school where I can play volleyball while preparing for a career as a physical therapist.
* Serve a two-year mission for my church. My current plan is to begin missionary service immediately following high school graduation, deferring my college enrollment for two years, which would effectively make me a 2021 recruit. However, I would be open to attending school for one year (2019-2020), taking two years off to serve a mission, and then returning to complete my last 3 years of school.
