From an early age, water sports have been a passion of mine; when I was introduced to water polo at age nine, I was hooked. I initially played set/set guard due to my early height level. However, when I aged up, my skills and stature were notice by an Assistant Olympic Goalie Coach on staff and I was therefore asked to transition to the position of goalie. I was intrigued at both the mental and the physical challenges, the importance of understanding shot angles, and defensive positions based upon the offensive player’s strengths while only allowing low probability shots. As a 12U team, we progressed to the platinum division silver/gold game but lost in a shootout even though I blocked 3 shots. While winning silver is a great accomplishment, it forced me to reflect on how to more effectively work with my team and refine my personal skills, thus becoming a better team member. That hard work paid dividends when 2 years later our 14U team won platinum division gold! My desire to enhance my skills has transitioned well to my academic career. I have had the opportunity to excel in both honors and advanced placement classes, as well as enroll in a two-year college level business program offered at my high school. This seminar allows me to investigate my area of interest, since I would like to pursue a collegiate degree in business. I believe I not only have the talent to compete and contribute to a college team, but the character and work-ethic to make an immediate impact on your program.
