Anthony Gauna '23 Recruiting Profile

My name is Anthony Gauna, I have been playing water polo with St. Mary's High School and Big Valley Water Polo Academy in Stockton, CA since freshman year. Currently, I am the starting Center on both teams. One recent award I received was being named to the 1st Team All T-CAL for my High School Season and for Big Valley Water Polo team we won 18u Bronze Division 3rd place at the Junior Olympics. I am seeking a college program and experience that will assist me in pursuing my goals of a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and the eligibility to continue my passion of playing water polo with the same integrity and dedication.

I have always been a hard dedicated worker, and a quick learner. This can be proven with the fact that I was invited to play varsity tournaments and some games including playoffs my freshmen year and then due to COVID-19 made the varsity team my Junior year of High School and continued to learn and improve my skills as a center and attacker. I really enjoy defense as much as offence and I get just as much joy from stopping a goal, and/or earning an ejection, as I do from scoring.

When I was younger, I never thought I would be able to play at a college level but now I’m really looking forward to the possibility. As my varsity coach spoke at the banquet recently and he announced that I had 39 goals, 34 drawn ejection and I was our team's offensive force, I realized that if I was able to build these skills in 4 years then I could continue to build at the next level.

In addition to all this above, I am self-motivated, a team player, detail oriented and can follow through and achieve goals. I have strong planning, decision-making, problem-solving and communication skills that assist me well in a multi-tasking environment. Also, I have consistently contributed to a team effort. As a well-motivated student athlete with commitment to time, energy, and effort, I am confident in my ability to make an immediate contribution to your campus and team.
