Personal Statement

MY COLLEGIATE GOALS?

  1. I'm committed to graduate with a degree that allows me to pursue a career that will be fulfilling and provide for myself and my future family.
  2. I'd like to study in a University that has a diverse student profile.
  3. I want to study in an environment where contribution is actively encouraged and I can learn to the best of my ability.
  4. I'd like to be in a holistic university that offers activities and opportunities to contribute outside of the classroom and sports arena.

WHY YOU NEED ME ON YOUR TEAM ?

  1.  I'm an open minded player - open to new learning and concepts grasping these quickly and execute precisely to the best of my ability.
  2. I'm the first to trainings and the last to leave making sure I give 110% effort to maximise the time spent.
  3. I've proven to be an effective communicator and encourager as the Captain of my Varsity School Team .
  4. My sprint speed is exceptional demonstrated by the fact I have never lost a swim off in the last two years, and have never had a goal scored against my team based on the oppositions fast break or counter attack.
  5. My coaches say that I'm reliable, learn from my mistakes and capitalise on training learnings to be a continuous improver in the pool.
  6. I've had experience playing Internationally with multiple New Zealand National Teams having played competitive Water Polo in Croatia, Montenegro, Australia, Hawaii, and my naturally home country New Zealand. This has enabled me to see many different ways of playing the game, learn from widely varying styles and experience many different cultures.

WHAT MAKES ME DIFFERENT ?

  1. My wide wing span of 80", my strong legs and the leverage that this combination brings; enables me to easily steal balls get over my opponents and shoot harder and faster than most.
  2. I have stamina and am able to break through the pain barrier, and given my ability and leadership in the pool, I'm seldom subbed off.
  3. I have a deep sense of caring for others and demonstrate inclusive behaviour in school and in my wider social network.
  4.  People say I'm energetic and fun to be around which is part of the reason I have a wide circle of friends from diverse backgrounds and interests.
  5.  My genuine concern for others and trustworthiness means friends often come to me for advice on problems they're facing.
  6. I'm an overcomer - I've had to deal with dyslexia and adopt new ways of learning to keep pace in the classroom as I learn differently to others.
  7. My Water-Polo refereeing means I've had to learn to deal diplomatically and unemotionally with often "overly passionate" coaches and players - which has tested and developed my communication skills. I'm comfortable communicating at all levels...juniors, peers, adults and people in positions of authority.

In summary - I'm a well rounded, mature and talented athlete committed to developing myself to be the best person and Water Polo player I can be. I look forward to being a high level contributor in a dynamic USA Team - both in and out of the pool.
