Personal Statement

I have been playing water polo for almost 7 years and over those years I have developed a strong skill set. I am a very committed team player who is respected by my peers and coaches. I am a natural team leader who has captained his school every year as well as my provincial (state) teams. I believe in encouragement and earning the respect of my team by always leading by example.

I am a highly versatile player who prefers playing left driver but can move comfortably between most positions in the game. I have a formidable shot and am a dangerous attacker, often setting up the play, making the pass into the hole, scoring and inevitably end up taking penalties. I am strong, fit and an extremely solid defender. My long arm span helps me steal the ball from our competitors. I am sure that I will be one of the hardest working, versatile, most committed recruits you will find. (Please read the testimonials from my coaches and school masters).

I attend one of the most prestigious schools in South Africa that has an extremely good reputation and globally respected academic results. It is not unusual for scholars from my school to attend top colleges around the globe. I work hard and pay attention in class, manage my time extremely well and have always maintained a high academic standard and GPA score. I am especially strong in Maths, Physical and Natural Science.

I have travelled extensively for my school, province (state) and country and learnt how to handle and manage myself on tours and under intense time pressures and demanding sport / academic schedules. I have also volunteered and concluded extensive community hours for charities such as Hospice, Animal Shelters and Zoos throughout the last 8 years.

I want to attend a college where I can grow both academically and in my water polo. I am open to all opportunities but ultimately want to find the right college match at the highest level possible. I believe that attending the right college in the USA will ultimately be an incredible experience and growth opportunity and one where I hope to make both my family and college proud.
