Hello, my name is Octavia Walker and I attend Norwin HS in Irwin, PA and am a member of the class of 2027. I have played competitive sports all of my life, including travel softball through the summer of 2024. Our team had a great first season of sanctioned wresting in PA. We took first place at multiple tournaments (Southmoreland and Mid-Winter Mayhem), finished 8th our 66 teams at the Beast of the East in Delaware, and top 5 as a team at Powerade. I personally went 29-10 as a freshman in PA at the 170lb weight class, taking 5th at Beast of the East, 3rd at Powerade, runner-up at mid-winter mayhem then finished the season taking first in the WPIAL and 2nd in the PIAA Western region. I was a PA state Qualifier for both folk and freestyle. I also qualified for Fargo in the summer of 2024, but was unable to wrestle due to a collarbone injury. At this time, I am uncertain as to what I would like to focus on academically in college, so my focus is to be the best student-athlete that I can as I progress through HS keeping all options open. While one of my biggest triumphs my freshman season was becoming the WPIAL inaugural 170lb HS champion, not making the podium at PA states is a bigger motivator heading into my sophomore season. I am looking forward to the 2024-2025 season as I continue to pursue my goal of wrestling in college, and beyond!
My biggest goal in life is to make my family proud, they do everything they can for me. The extra hours they spend at work, the money the put into my sports for me, all I want to do is make them proud and happy.
