Personal Statement

Hello my name is Jordan Hall.  I am 17 years old and I play High School Basketball at Saraland High School in Mobile, Alabama.  Saraland Schools are 5 years old and we are a 6A classification.  I have played basketball for 7 years.  I started as a sophomore as the Point Guard for the Lady Spartans.  I averaged 12 Points a game last year as well distributed the ball around to my teammates with 7 assists a game.  I also got all tournament honors last year.  I am on track for the same stats this year but have had some higher performing games this year.  I have a very competitive spirit.  I compete hard at everything I do, whether on the court, in the classroom, or playing board games,  I want to win. I also very badly want to play college basketball.  It is a long time dream of mine and I am willing to work as hard as I can to achieve this.
Along with my competitive nature I have a very strong work ethic.  I am the first in the gym and usually the last one to leave.  I will run extra after practice.  I want to master my drills and be the best at my craft.  I believe that games are won when there are no one in the bleachers.  With my hard work, I have gained a lot of strength.  I bench press 165 Lbs and Squat 255 Lbs.  We work out daily at school and my strength coach would vouch for how hard and how serious I take my training.  In fact, I have won the weight lifting award at school. My strength and competitive attitude make me a very physical player.  I do not mind making contact and being aggressive on the court.  If there is a bigger, stronger post player that our team needs to stop, my coach will put me on that opponent.  I do not hesitate to block out, bar cutters, or mix it up with others to gain an advantage.  I believe I am pretty fundamentally sound.  That comes from living with a coach of 26 years.  We have worked hard and discussed many situations over the years.  We even study film and work on mental toughness.  I have a high basketball IQ.  In my ability, I can shoot anywhere on the court.  I am a very good 3 point shooter.  I have made up to 6 in a game and can change a game with my accuracy.
Last, my achievements and talents as a student are exceptional.  I have a 4.5 GPA and take all AP Classes.  I have made one B in my lifetime and that was a 89.6 in AP Biology.  I was devastated.  I am also ranked 5th in my class and would be ranked higher had I been at Saraland as a middle schooler.  The same pride and drive that I view in athletics is the same in the classroom.  I made a 28 on my ACT but my goal is a 30.  I will achieve this.  I want to be the best at everything I do.  I also throw the shot and javelin.  I placed in the top 5 in all of my meets.  This was my second year ever to compete in track.  I attribute this to my strength and work ethic.  I love basketball and everything about the game.  One of my favorite things is having the friendship and relationships with my teammates.  There is nothing like the power and idea of a team.  This compels me even more to play college ball.

  • I have known Jordan Hall for almost 2 years as the head coach of the Saraland High School Ladies Basketball team. From this experience, I can say with complete confidence that Jordan is a dedicated student athlete who leads from example and will be great asset to any future team. I still recall meeting Jordan during the summer before the start of her summer season. She joined a roster of girls who had previously played together. As the new addition she quickly became a leader as a sophomore and set the bar in the weight room, on the court and in the classroom. She has been instrumental in the development in players on our team, with her leadership in those areas. Her teammates admire and follow her dedication and will to be successful. It is because of that drive that she has, that we are able to have that resilient attitude when in competition. As a starting point guard, Jordan’s drive to never let up and never give up, lead our team to a 4th Quarter rally, where we were down double digits. She lead us to a miraculous comeback by getting defensive stops. She also tallied 17 points with 12 coming in the 4th Qtr. Since having the privilege of coaching her, Jordan has stood out as a leader both on and off the courts. Her demand and will to want to be successful challenges teammates to be better on the courts and in the classroom. As a coach, she has been a valuable asset to our teams success and a leader. Jordan’s goal is to play basketball in college. I know that she will be an outstanding addition to any program that demands hard work and attention to detail among other things. If you have any questions about Jordan please feel free to contact me at Saraland High School. Sincerely, Larry Burgess Women’s Head Basketball Coach Saraland High School.
