The summer before seventh grade was the first time I played basketball, and it was on a whim when my friends decided to play that instead of volleyball. My coach saw some raw talent in me and knew I could develop into much more. I immediately loved playing. I learned everything I could about basketball, worked on every aspect of my game and realized my goal of making the varsity squad in high school.
My freshman year, the team was 8-10. I learned a lot about teamwork, commitment and sacrifice and that no matter how much work you put in, it doesn’t always payoff in wins. This past season, my junior year, my team went 18-0 and made it to the state championship. While we didn’t take home the win, I got a taste of real success, which is driving me even more as I prepare for my last high school season. The biggest takeaway from the past three years is learning to be a leader both on and off the court. I’m looking for a school that will challenge me both academically and athletically.
