My name is Victoria Hill. I am a 5’6” point guard who stands ready to take on the role of a college athlete. I started playing basketball at the age of five through the Upward Christian based sports program. God has been the biggest influence in my life. Many people in my community know of me because of basketball and my love for sports overall. Sports is a passion of mine especially basketball. This is where my heart is. I love to be on the court playing our rivals. Basketball isn’t just a game; it is very much like life. On the court as the point guard, I have to look ahead for my team mates so that we can put our plays into action. Since I am the driving force, I need to be looking ahead, eyeing every single player, so that we can score because at the end of the game, the score board shows the winner.
I am wanting to play on a college team that is going to help me not only on the court with the team but in the classroom too. I hope to make a great impact both on the court and in my field of study, art. I am a great person to be around. I lead by example because I believe a person needs to live up to the character that they inspire to be. I am that person—on the court and off the court. When I am faced with my opponents presented as an obstacle on the court, I find a way around them so I can get the ball to my team mates to score. Like the obstacles on the court, life has its own challenges. I have had many as most people. But, I made those obstacles my challenge to overcome, find a way to lead, and move forward because I knew that I was in charge of my own success.
My academic goals include to graduate high school and attend college. I know I can do this because I have great study ethics that helps me to do my very best. I plan on pursuing a career in art and work towards an art therapy degree. Art is very relaxing, and I know I could help patients overcome tragedies, stress, and illnesses. I connect this with basketball a lot because I know I help my teammates out on the court.
I have several athletic accomplishments. In basketball I received: All State 2017-2018, All Region 2015-2016, 2016-2017, and 2017-2018, All District 2015-2016, 2016-2017, and 2017-2018; All State in Cross Country 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 Our track and cross country team won a triple crown 2015. Our softball team won regional champs 2014-2015, and we were placed as final 4 state 2014-2015. These sports have contributed to my athletic accomplishments by helping to instill endurance, persistence, and competition.
