Rowan Smith '18 Recruiting Profile

After not even qualifying for the playoffs of my sophomore season of high school, I led my team to a 22-9 record, the final round of CIF playoffs, and the Sweet 16 in State playoffs in my junior year. This is something that has not been done at my school in 10 years, and I was able to accomplish it with only a total of six players. I am a competitor, and one of the most hard working and dedicated players you will ever find. I am willing to do whatever it takes to help my team win. Additionally, this past season I was selected 1st Team All-League in the CIF Southern Section Sunshine League. Ever since my seventh grade year at Marlborough, I have been chosen by my teammates to be captain of the basketball team. This responsibility has brought me a group of girls looking to me for guidance both on and off the court. I believe this has helped me mature immensely and become more compassionate. I’ve also learned so many different values from playing basketball such as hard work, sacrifice, and commitment; but I believe the biggest asset I’ve learned and can add to your team is to be selfless. I want to make sure that everyone on my team is both mentally and physically 100%, so that we can do better as a program. I also work hard everyday to get better not just for myself, but for my team. Because I believe that when one player gets better so does the whole program.

I’d like for my four years at college to be a chance for me to experience personal growth. Because my education is very important to me, I am interested in a program that will not only be a good fit athletically, but also academically. My interests are varied, and though I don’t exactly know what I’ll major in, I do know that I want to be able to help others in need. In addition to having the leadership skills to make an immediate impact in your program, I also believe that I have the hunger, talent, and work-ethic that can help your team win.
