Personal Statement

I have been playing basketball since I was five years old. Since I first stepped on the court, I have aspired to play at the collegiate and professional level. I know that playing in college is a once in a lifetime opportunity that will change my life and my future.

I have strong ball handling skills, strong physical defense, mental toughness, and high basketball IQ. I have played AAU since the forth grade and was a key contributor in my fifth grade team winning the Virginia State championship. I am a team leader and lead by example while also encouraging my teammates. I am very coachable and assist my coach with leading practices and helping other teammates to succeed. I strive to be the hardest working player and the hardest working recruit you will ever find.

In the classroom, I study hard and maintain a high GPA.  I also volunteer at local youth basketball camps. I lived in Japan for three years and have been exposed to a wide range of culture which has put me through challenging situations that I needed to overcome. I was consistently forced outside of my comfort zone.  I have developed new attitudes and perspectives that are uniquely my own, not inherited by being born in a certain country. This has helped me cultivate a true global perspective which will help me in the college environment.

I have played at D1 level but circumstances including COVID caused me to need to return home for a year. I am excited to resume my basketball career and play closer to home where I can just enjoy this beautiful game that I love. Any coach that I have ever played for will tell you that I am an unselfish player who only cares about winning, not stats. Give me an opportunity and you will not regret it.

I want to attend a college where I can push myself in the classroom and on the basketball court. I am open to all options and want to ultimately find the right college match at the highest level of competition possible. She can get to the basket with a strong first step, she has the wiggle in her game to create space and pull up over defenders, and her footwork and shot preparation coming off screens makes her hard to guard. In regard to her basketball IQ, she sees the floor really well. Her ability to handle the ball, attack gaps, draw help defenders & make correct reads make her an asset on the offensive end. In addition - her range and quick release stretch the floor out, which opens things up for her team on the offensive end. Defensively, she moves well laterally & does a great job contesting every shot. " Personality: "Sydne has a passion for the game of basketball. She's got the work ethic and drive to get better daily. Having trained her & coached against her -- it's easy to see that this kid is a ball player. She is fun to watch because she's emotionally invested in the game. Sydne's an unselfish player that finds the open man. "
