Personal Statement
When I was 7 years old, my dad asked me if I wanted to play basketball. I fell in love with the sport right away. Learning that the game is not just about scoring but being in the right place to make the right play became my goal for each game. I moved from Park District to travel basketball and Middle School ball in 7th grade and my skills became more refined and I was playing positions that I hadn’t played in the past. Our travel team made it to the Illinois State Championships in 8th grade.
Moving from Illinois to Florida right before freshman year of high school was the scariest thing I have ever done. Starting all over was a struggle at first but, it just made me a stronger person. Moving was an experience that I'll never forget, and it turned out the be a great experience that also helped me grow as a person. Largo High School and its ExCEL program have challenged me to do my best. They know what I can do and that I do need to be academically challenged when possible. AVID has also helped me understand what kind of colleges are out there and the different kinds of majors out there for me. My goals are to be academically challenged in high school and college and to get straight A's and B's.
I've learned so many things about myself through playing basketball. I've learned that I'm a very competitive person, and I love being part of a team that cares about basketball as much as I do. I am also a three-sport athlete and that has shown me that if you try your best and work hard then you can succeed. I am an eager learner, a good listener, and will give my team everything I have every minute I am on the floor.
