Personal Statement
I am a 5'11" Guard/Small Forward from Grayslake, Il. I have played on the Grayslake North High School varsity team for 3 years. I have a 4.0 GPA and I scored a 26 on June ACT. I took the test again in October and hope to raise my score at least another 3 points.
I want to continue playing basketball at the collegiate level within a highly competitive environment. Basketball has been a priority for me since I was five years old. Being a member of a team has improved my leadership skills and it has taught me the value of teamwork and accountability. Despite juggling many hours of athletic obligations each week, plus a full class schedule, I could not be happier. I also understand there needs to be a balance between sports and education.
I have chosen to apply for a degree that allows me to work with children and young people. I enjoy learning and extending my knowledge to children and assisting in their development.
Avon Grade School is a local elementary school located not far from my high school. I was lucky enough to spend one hour, three days a week, as a teacher’s aide. I was amazed at the complexity of each child’s personality. The kids were extremely perceptive. They could spot when I was not having a “good” day and were always quick to point it out. We would talk about their day, what movies they enjoyed, and their favorite animals. The experience has contributed to my desire to work with kids for my career.
I am looking forward to college. I am ready to take the next step in my education and I welcome the opportunity to improve. Most importantly, I will conduct myself appropriately on and off the court, knowing that the way I carry myself reflects my team, my coaches and the school I attend.
