Sophia Pierce '18 Recruiting Profile

Like most who aspire to play basketball at the collegiate level, I love the game.  I love the competition of a close game, a rivalry game.  I love the camaraderie and the hard work and discipline that goes into all aspects of preparation for a season or for a single opponent.

Beyond that love of the game, and I could go on about games and shots that stand out in my mind, I also have come to appreciate a respect for the game.  At some point in time, basketball will end for everyone who plays it.  What will come with me when I walk off the court for the last time are habits of hard work, extra work required to achieve success.  Teamwork as a basis to achieve more than could be achieved by a group of individuals will be a part of who I am.  But most importantly, this game has and will continue to reward the hours of work with an occasional opportunity to use its platform in success or sometimes in failure to encourage or inspire those who are watching, be it younger kids I have coached or players and students of my own age.  That opportunity to influence others through this game is an aspect I have grown to appreciate over the past few years.

So, YES!  I have the burning desire to continue my basketball career while pursing a college degree.  I hope to find a close-knit program of women who are committed to the game.  I aspire to use my leadership, hard work and the talents I have been blessed with to chase wins against rivals, to chase conference titles and national tournament berths!  And through success or failure, along the way I hope to share my faith, inspire by my actions and encourage by my words.
