Playing sports has always been a part of my life and I believe the teamwork and training skills that are gained transfer to everyday life. I have only played basketball since the 6th grade, but I instantly loved it and would like to continue playing in college. I would like to be part of a team to have that community within college to build relationships with my teammates and my coaches. I have learned that, even in a small school, a team is a place to grow and push each other as we play together. I also think having the discipline of being on a basketball team in college is important so I can continue working to improve wherever I can and learn to balance it with my studies. The discipline of basketball and any other sport requires a commitment of time and energy, and I believe being able to balance that with school is a skill that is important for any other activity I choose to be in as well. This was very evident through the soccer season this year as I joined an AAU basketball team and had practice right after soccer. Finally, I would like to continue my basketball career on a team where I can use my teammates and the teams we play against as inspiration for improving myself. I love having a role model to look up to and aspire to be, because you can never be the best, but you should always work to be your best.
I have played basketball and soccer at my school ever since 6th grade and always play with everything I have. On the field or court I'm always giving 100% no matter the circumstances. My strengths are speed and defense and my shot is ever improving. Playing two sports through middle school and high school has allowed me to be in a leadership position. I was a starter on varsity basketball as an 8th grader and a starter on varsity soccer in 7th grade. In this I have encouraged my teammates and helped them improve while they also provide ways for me to improve. In soccer, especially, I have learned how to have an attitude of not giving up, even when we lost and this skill transferred easily to basketball. As a rising junior, I am grateful for all my opportunities to play and am looking forward to next season!
