Personal Statement

Hello my name is Rayah Helenhouse. I am 5'11 and 165 lbs. I am an all around player within the game. My strongest positions are center and power forward. One of my biggest inspirations to start playing basketball were my friends. I started off with a rec league that my school offered in second grade. Then I was apart of a travel league in fifth grade. From that point on my passion for basketball grew. Before I knew it I was playing all day on Saturdays and practicing all the time throughout the week. Then came middle school and high school. By playing basketball I have learned many unique characteristics about myself. One of them being that I am a very vocal person on and off the court. For example, my team relies on me to break down the huddles and also to communicate plays and drills on the court. The gym gets very loud and having someone who is not afraid to be loud is a very good benefit to any team. Another thing that I learned about myself is that I am very aggressive. I have spent many mornings in the weight room at our school. I started my freshman year. I grew a love for lifting and getting the gains that would help improve my performance on the court. My physical strength is a great addition to my performance. I am not afraid to get on the ground and get after a loose ball.  My energy that I bring onto the floor is another great addition. I am able to bring up teammates when they are having bad and/or off days. A couple academic goals that I have for my high school and collage careers is to maintain good grades, while also having good study habits. While doing this I would also like to enjoy time with my team and friends. Furthermore, some obstacles that have been placed within my path are having to work hard when my performance is off. Or having to work harder when talent is not there.
