The first time I played basketball, I was 7 years old. My parents signed me up for a recreational team in my hometown, and on the way to my first game, I cried because I was nervous and afraid of the unknown. Little did I know that just a few years later, the basketball court would be the place where I felt most at home.
I have played basketball for three seasons out of the year since I was 12 years old, when I made the cut for my first AAU team. Through basketball, I have learned how to work with others, overcome adversity, and push myself beyond what I thought were my limits. I have learned to recognize other's strengths as well as my own, and how we can rely on each other to overcome our personal weaknesses. I have also learned that a group of young women can walk onto a court as complete strangers, and almost immediate start working together as a team, with one goal. Being a two-sport athlete, (I am also a varsity swimmer,) has taught me time management and how to prioritize, as I have maintained a 3.7 GPA and am an honor roll student.
I am determined to play basketball at the college level. For me, it's more than just a chance to continue to play the sport I am passionate about, it will also help me achieve my career goals of becoming a physical therapist or sports trainer. My coaches have described me as "talented," "a hard worker," and "extremely coachable," but most importantly, they describe me as a "team player". Once my career as a high school athlete is complete, I'm eager to continue to work hard doing what I love with a college team.
