I started playing basketball when I was in Kindergarten. Back then it was just something that my parents got me and my siblings into to get us playing sports. As my years of playing continued on, basketball became something that I fell in love with and became what I considered a hobby of mine. When I got to high school, it was my first time playing for a more competitive team. I realized that basketball was more than a hobby and if I wanted to play at a higher level then I needed to put the work in. I didn’t play for a team in seventh or eighth grade because my school didn’t have a team and the league I was playing in would have interfered with another commitment. If I could go back now, I would choose to play then. It makes me feel behind the other players at my school. This has made me work harder to “catch back up.”
During the off-season I mostly work by myself or with my dad. Working by myself I find it hard to stay motivated. This is when I have to remember what it feels like when game time comes and the feeling I get when I step on the court. I can’t expect to get playing time if I don’t work on my game on my own. This pushes me forward. I think about my parents and how proud I can make them and how much they have supported me. I think about myself and how I don’t want to let myself down. I think about my coaches and how much they believe in me and push me.
I would be grateful to play for any team that would have me. Over the course of my years playing basketball I have learned so much about life in general and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
