Personal Statement

I live for the game of basketball.  Peewee is where it all started for me.  When the ball would bounce higher than your body, defending the other kid with the matching sweatband, when all we could do was yell each other's names to get the ball passed to us, and then dribble in circles.  Yes, that was when I knew I wanted to go far in this game.  It was also then that my amazing, outgoing, spunky, and loud parents - Michele and Robert -  did what they could to get me into camps to help me achieve my dream of playing college basketball.  If it weren't for them, along with my coaches, I wouldn't be the player I am today.  I am the youngest of three kids and family has always been important to me, we are very close.  From day one, they have been my biggest fans and have always supported me.

I don't play this sport to just simply play and to make people happy, I play basketball because I believe that it makes me, along with everyone else who plays along side me, a better person.  In this game, players get knocked down so many times, whether it's based on their height, skill level, and  literally getting knocked down. The thing I keep in mind that drives me is that real challenge/growth happens mentally, physically, and emotionally when we get knocked down.  It takes courage to act and start over again after being knocked down.  Often with that comes fear, which can kill dreams and hope. Fear can hold us back from doing what we love. So, we cannot fear anything but instead gain courage in order to be successful. Stay hungry!  When we get tired, we must strive to be our best and prove anyone who doubted us wrong and always work for what we want.  Nothing is ever easy, if it were, everybody would do it. Therefore, only those who are willing to do whatever it takes will  be the best!  That's what I love about this game, we can become not only great athletes, but great people by getting up from being knocked down and pushing ourselves in challenges.

In the game of basketball, I love defense and getting into opposing player's heads. Therefore, when you want someone to lock up the opponents best player, to get on the ground and go after every loose ball, that's me. I have been working hard, and have improved, on my offense with more accurate shooting and driving to the basket.  When you want someone to step it up and be a leader on the team, I will be that player.  I am always willing to do whatever it takes to be successful, and make the team be the best it can be.  However, at the end of the day, it's not all about me, it's about my teammates, coaches, and family.  When we work together, anything is possible.
