Personal Statement

My name is Megan Dalo and I am a senior at Berwick Area High School, and am the captain of our girl’s varsity basketball team. I have been playing basketball since the 6th grade. I grew up loving the game of basketball, and am interested in continuing to play at the college level.

I always make my presence known when I’m on the floor, and do anything I can to make an impact to the game and to help my team win. During my sophomore season, I was a starter on the varsity team who made an appearance in the 4A district final game, and who made it to the second round of the state playoffs. During my junior season, I average approximately 8 points and 8 rebounds per game, and was held a key role on the team. I received all-conference honors, and helped my team advance to the state tournament for the second year in a row. Within my senior season, I am current averaging approximately a double-double each game, average about 12 points each game along with 10 rebounds. Our team is currently 12-2 this season, and I have been a key player in our current success, not only with my performance on the floor, but as a leader of the team, as I serve as our team’s captain.

Along with my ability to score in/around the post and rebound offensively and defensively, I am also very knowledgeable on when to kick the ball out of the post to assist my teammates, and I have the ability to run up and down the floor, being a key factor in our team’s ability to fast break. I am aggressive on the floor, am a strong defender, and am a frequent shot blocker. I am a strong leader on and off the court, and work well with my teammates. I support and encourage them, but also am frequent to give them direction and to pick them back up when they’re off. I am a very hard worker, and give 100% effort in practice and games. I am very coachable and listen to my coaches well, doing whatever they need of me. I feel that all of these qualities would make me a great fit for a college program. When I am on the floor, I contribute in any way possible for the team.

I also work very hard in the classroom, with a 4.0 GPA as well as a 1290 SAT score. I am in my school’s S.T.E.M. program, and have been enrolled in 15 honors/AP level classes during my time here at Berwick. I am involved in Berwick’s music program, as well as dozens of clubs and extracurricular activities, such as student council, class secretary, NHS, etc as well as being the president and founder of our Spirit Club. I also hold 3 part-time jobs, working as a lifeguard and swim instructor at two different facilities within town, and as a cashier at my families’ local bakery.

I feel that I would be a great fit for a college program, and that my positive attitude and great work ethic would impact a college program well!
