Since I was a little girl I’ve always felt a special connection to basketball. I’ve been surrounded by it my whole life and I genuinely find joy in just watching it. When I was younger and began playing girls leagues were not as plentiful as they are today. So I began playing in a rec league where I was the only girl on all boys teams. As I grew up basketball has morphed into who I am as a person and has taught me valuable lessons that have carried me through my life. Such as to always be coachable and to never focus on the bad for too long because there’s more important things to focus on. I believe the most important thing I’ve learned in basketball is to surround yourself with positivity and accountability because those two things lead to growth and success. Having learned all of this the main thing is that I feel I know basketball, every in and out and every little detail. I love basketball because it brings me joy and at peace when I’m around it. I’ve always wanted to be surrounded by basketball for as long as I can. Which is why I want to be a teacher and coach when I grow up. I want to help other kids find the same love and passion for the game that I have and always will. Specifically I would like to teach and coach middle school, I feel that middle school is one of the most developmental parts of someone’s life. They start to find where they stand in school and who they are and I want to make an impact on their athletic prowess. I’ve also always been good at the articulation of my words and writing stories and essays so I would prefer to be an English teacher along with a basketball coach. The school and basketball program I continue my academic and athletic journey with would ideally help me develop me as a player, coach, teacher and an overall ambassador of the game that I love.
