Personal Statement

Basketball has been my favorite sport ever since I was old enough to play. I love playing the game and being a part of a family oriented team. I focus on bettering myself and doing my absolute best to better my team and lead them to victories. I keep my grades up and maintain a very organized lifestyle.  College basketball is something that I have always been interested in.

I would love being a part of a team outside of high school because I have been playing the sport for many years and I feel like I have many aspects that fit the college player level. I am a team oriented player. I play for my team and not just for myself. I focus on bettering my team in everything that we do and teamwork is a big factor for me. My goal for my team is not for me to be the highest scorer, but to be the teammate that is positive, assists everyone, cares for my teammates and leads them on and off of the court. My goal for my team is to not only be successful, but to be satisfied in the amount of effort that we put into the game and into each other. Effort is something that is very important to me and I continue to strive to put in as much effort as I possibly can. I work hard to achieve my goals and I do not take failure for an answer. I understand the morals of good character and tend to practice them as often as I can. I was taught as a young child to be respectful, to believe in myself, and to not just think of myself, but to put others before me. I believe that my experience in competitive basketball has put me in a position where I know the point of the game as well as the environment. I believe that I have what it takes to play beyond my high school career and be able to experience the great opportunities that college basketball has to bring.

College basketball has always been on my mind and I have thought long and hard about which colleges I would like to attend as well as what location would be best for me. I have always been close to home and have not been away from family for a long period at a time, but I am willing to branch out and be a part of any team that is interested in me. I financially would be more open to in state opportunities, but for the right offer or amount of interest, I am willing to move outside of my area and reach out to further schools.  To me, college basketball is a huge opportunity no matter what division you participate in or what location you are offered at.  I do not have certain preferences when it comes to what division I want to play in and I would be blessed to be a part of whatever team or division reaches out to me.

In my opinion, coaching is a very important part of a team.  Every team has a leader or a coach to guide them through their seasons and through all of their challenges as well as their success. I believe that a good coach is somebody who loves and cares about each one of their player. A good coach does not pick favorites based on who scores the most or who has the best shot or who has the most assists.  To me,  coaches have to have experience in the sport as well as in personal skills. Teams that possess a good experienced coach that loves each of its players, has more success on and off of the court. Teams like these are more family oriented and trust each other with their futures. Anybody can be a coach, but it takes somebody with true heart and passion for their job and players to be a good, successful coach.

College basketball is an amazing opportunity and being able to be a part of it would fulfill many dreams of mine as well as open many doors in my future, and I believe that I possess many of the characteristics that a college player should have.
