The student-athlete concept is who I am in character and as a performer on the basketball court. I am not a one-dimensional player or student. I have many diverse layers and enormous depth to my mental and physical makeup. When I am engaged in a sport I put my ego aside and put the team goals and missions at the forefront of my agenda. I know I cannot achieve my personal goals and dreams without the help of the team. I realize that basketball players are more powerful when they take individual skills and form a collective to build one powerful punch as an organization.
As a student, I realize that education creates the critical thinking skills needed to implement plays and understand the psychology of the game. The information gained in the classroom setting cannot be converted into usable knowledge without embracing and diving into the learning process in the classroom. Knowledge gained inside the classroom is only potential energy until it is put into action and turned into kinetic energy and used in everyday life. I believe in being a well-rounded individual in order to be an asset to the basketball organization I become a part of at the collegiate level.
