Personal Statement
Adriana Recinos is the name, hustle is my game. Luckily basketball is tough and gritty. Nothing good comes easy. I've played basketball since 5th Grade, which yes, time doesn't mean much, but since I've began my passion has only grown. There have been many setbacks, like all things as they progress in challenge, but nothing I've faced in my heart and mind has pushed me away, only pulled me closer to wanting to play in college more. I am the class of 2020, and I am currently enrolled as a running start student learning to manage the tangles of adulthood. I like to think I am an affable person with a decent sense of humor. Growing up I learned early the importance of responsibility. Being one of the oldest of four kids with only mom, I took on a role that shortened my childhood, looking back I wouldn’t want it any other way because through the hardships I learned valuable things that have given me empathy, patience, and resilience. I am unique because I am very goofy, music fuels me and I can’t help but groove. Which is why practice with my teammates is my very favorite to work hard, sweat, and DANCE.
I have a lot of experience in basketball, including AAU basketball tournaments, varsity as a freshman, starting as a sophomore and getting a lot of minutes, and going to NBC basketball camps since 5th grade. Sophomore year I was designated in our league as honorable mention. Going into junior year at NBC I was selected as one of the all-stars (10 girls out of "pack-12" aka oldest group, to play against the coaches). Junior season my team went to districts for my school’s first time ever is 2A (Orting High school). I believe that I have not yet peaked, but my dedication brings me closer and closer to be the best player I can be.
I know I will be an asset to any team, not only because I am a very hardworking defense-oriented player, but I am also a huge source of motivation to others because I truly care about people. I can better a team by challenging and encouraging them at the same time. With my high school team, I lead by example and hard work. Many of the underclassman came to me after season and said I inspired them, and they looked up to me. This made me realize it’s so much more than the sport itself but the everlasting impact you can have on a teammate, which is another thing I appreciate about basketball. I have very good ball handling as well as good court vision and awareness which makes me a great assister but give me the rock and I will put it in as well. Every day before practice I lead all three of our teams to ball handling drills to improve coordination and unity. I know I pour myself into my passions, which is why basketball is what I will pursue.
I am looking for a coach who expects greatness for me and encourages with a positive voice. I would expect to be held to high and realistic standards, with patience to teach me new plays and material. I am an intelligent girl, so verbal and visual walk throughs of expectation in detail is where I thrive. I am also looking for a coach who wants me to try new things to improve. I am a determined individual so the scholarship I am looking for will be to cover all, if not most of my room and board costs. I am different from anyone you will ever meet, which is why I would be a great addition to any team. I am the ultimate sponge, teach me and I promise my 110%. I am gritty with a lot of goofy. I don’t believe in coincidences, so I think you’re reading this for a reason. Hopefully enough of my charisma has made a lasting impression on you.
